The Crazy Girlfriend Praying Mantis: Out for Blood

For some, this may be a throwback. For most, the Crazy Girlfriend Praying Mantis meme will be a fresh, new experience of stalker extremes. The meme features a photo of a praying mantis, where the female is known in most cultures for killing and consuming her male partner before, during, or after mating. You know, typical stuff. So obviously the next step would be to associate such a crazed insect with an overbearing, obsessive girlfriend through an amazing assortment of handpicked jabs and annoying comments. The series had gone seemingly unknown by many for nearly a year, but has finally grasped its full potential of hilarity in recent months.

The meme was first posted to Reddit way back on February 15th, 2011. Shortly afterwards, the website Smosh featured a round-up of images on April 15th, 2011. More variations have been posted on sites like FunnyJunk, Reddit, and the Body Building Forums, and the Crazy Girlfriend Praying Mantis Tumblr was created on March 17th, 2012, further bringing the series into the light of a broader audience.

Enjoy a sampling of the meme below, and head over to http://crazygirlfriendprayingmantis.tumblr.com/ for more nagging, speculating, suspicious remarks and bitchy commentary.

Cats in Ties vs Cash Cats

Ladies and gentlemen, it’s a battle royale. Today we’re examining two very influential blogs in the online cat humor department: cashcats.biz and tiecats.tumblr.com, and pitting them against each other to answer the age old question: are cats in human clothing funnier than cats rolling around in piles of money?

First up is Ca$h Cats, and blog dedicated to the photographing of one’s feline companion and large quantities of US dollars. Whether these cats are the agressive, mob style leader type with greed and blood in his eyes or the blissfully oblivious sleepy cat lying on a bed of crisp $20s, these cats go to show just how gangsta a feline can truly be.

Next up is Cats in Ties. Here we find a plethora of adorable feline friends in a range of business casual to black tie attire. Bow ties are the obvious go to, but the addition of a small hat can take this look to a whole new level.

Though it’s hard to choose a winner between these two gems, Ca$h Cats has an unparalleled sense of creativity when it comes to the placement and aesthetic of their scenarios for photographs. And so, Ca$h Cats takes the prize for best cat blog (at least for today.)

What Should We Call Me?

The Tumblr “What Should We Call Me?” has recently popped up in the online community as a fabulous one-stop-shop for sassy comebacks, witty remarks, and relevant happenings that us twenty-somethings can all relate to.

Each post begins with: when _____ happens: followed by a GIF, meme or photo of relevant pop culture icons or happenings that are used to relate back to every day life.

For instance, the post “when someone takes credit for something I said first” is followed by the (obviously) appropriate GIF of Dumbledore standing in Hogwarts giving a look of disapproval, with the caption, “really, bitch?” cleverly written underneath.

Other top contenders include:

  • When I black out and then see pictures from the night before
  • When my friend says she’s going to Starbucks
  • When I found out that Aladdin and DJ Tanner’s boyfriend were the same person

Overall, the blog has potential, but the lolz are rather far between. That said, there a quite a few diamonds in the rough, and if you’ve got the time to scroll through pages and pages of posts (which let’s be honest, you know you do) then this site will welcome you with open arms and most likely swallow you whole.
